Recognising that Brexit has the capacity to bring about radical change in the UK's approach to agriculture and fisheries, two separate Parliamentary committees were anxious to hear what the minister responsible for agriculture, fisheries and food could tell them at a recent hearing. The European Scrutiny Committee and the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee met jointly to take evidence from George Eustice.
The MPs wanted to know how Defra is handling ongoing EU policy discussions while the UK remains a member, how it will approach the forthcoming negotiations, and what its current thinking is on domestic policy, post-Brexit.
