Europe may ban all bee-harming neonics
A draft European Commission regulation proposes to prevent all use of neonicotinoid insecticides, on the basis of the high and acute threat they pose to bees, the food supply's essential pollinators.
Neonicotinoids, the world’s most widely used insecticides, would be banned from all fields across Europe under a draft regulation from the European Commission, which has been seen by the Guardian newspaper.
The paper reports that the documents are the first indication that the powerful Commission wants a complete ban, citing 'high, acute risks to bees'. A ban could be in place this year if the proposals are approved by a majority of EU member states. Read the full story here.
