The Campaign for Better Hospital Food has been nominated for a BBC Radio 4 Food and Farming Award in the Best Initiative in British Food category [1], along with The Food Assembly and the MA in Food Anthropology at The School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London.
There are ten categories for this year’s award, including Best Food Initiative, Best Food Market, Best Drinks Producer, Best Food Producer, and Best Street Food or Takeaway.
The award judges, who include some of the UK’s best known chefs and food writers [2], received more than 4,000 nominations from members of the public, and from this list selected their finalists.
The winners will be announced at a ceremony held in Bristol on Thursday 30 April 2015, and this year’s finalists will also feature in a special edition of BBC Radio 4’s The Food Programme, broadcast on Monday 4 May 2015.
Alex Jackson, Co-ordinator of the Campaign for Better Hospital Food, said: “We are delighted to receive this nomination on behalf of all of our supporters, including the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, thousands of patients and members of the public and our 100 national supporting organisations. It serves as yet another sign that the public passionately want to see an improvement to hospital food, especially more freshly cooked natural and nutritious food, and we won’t stop until we get it. We have been nominated along with two other great initiatives, so we will be chuffed whoever picks up the award in April!”
