Think you're an organic gardener?

An accessible new booklet from Sustain member Garden Organic sets out the five key principles of organic gardening -- and there's more to it than avoiding toxic chemicals.

Organic gardening is about creating a resilient and healthy natural growing space. It is based on the principles of feeding the soil, encouraging wildlife, using resources responsibly, avoiding harmful chemicals and keeping your growing area in good heart. Drawing on more than 60 years of research, the Principles of Organic Gardening explains the thinking behind each of the above, with many tips for growers. It can be downloaded free from the Garden Organic website here, or you can request a copy by post for £2.50.

Sustain supports involvement in community gardening for health and wellbeing -- see our projects on Growing Health (run with Garden Organic) and The Big Dig.
