Watchdog says EU law fails to protect us from food scandals

Food scandals are rife and consumers aren’t being protected enough says the European consumer organization foodwatch.

Foodwatch also demanded that consumer associations be given the right to sue authorities that fail to fulfil their obligations under EU law. This is the only way to give these organisations the leverage they need for effectively defending consumer rights.

Traceabillity along the food chain is not being maintained and is leading to major food scandals. Foodwatch argue that there needs to be a fundamental change to EU law to make it obligatory for authorities to tell consumers quickly and comprehensively about health risks from food.
