How Big Food and Drink make use of sport

The Healthy Stadia organisation aims to turn sports arenas into healthy eating hubs -- and in doing so it shines a light on how food companies have hijacked sport to promote unhealthy eating. The annual conference will take place in April.

Food and health campaigner Robin Ireland has written extensively on the relationships between sport, commerce and local food policies. His latest blogpost, on how Big Food has hijacked sport, can be found on the FUSE website here.

The organisation he co-founded, Healthy Stadia, aims to turn the arenas where fans gather to watch sports into 'health-promoting settings'.  It is holding its annual conference on 27 April in London at the Emirates Stadium (home of the Arsenal Football Club).  The conference will bring together the food industry, CSR people, sports professionals, academics, public health workers, caterers and others.
