The House of Commons' Health Committee, appointed to examine the workings of the Department of Health, have criticised the current policy on childhood obesity.
Chaired by Conservative MP Dr Sarah Wollaston, the committee's report highlights the growing cost of obesity to the NHS, and the relative lack of funds available to prevent obesity. The report recommends a sugary drinks tax, price controls on unhealthy food and drink as well as tougher controls on marketing and advertising of unhealthy food and drink.
