First report from new independent food panel

The new report from IPES-Food (International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems) titled 'The New Science of Sustainable Food Systems' argues that too often food problems have been considered in isolation, rather than a joint consideration of issues including impact on health and nutrition, environmental degradation as well as power imbalances.

IPES-Food is a new independent panel for food systems reform co-chaired by Olivier De Schutter, former UN Special Rapporteur on the right to food and ex-UNICEF nutrition expert Olivia Yambi. The report also says that those most affected by the problems in food systems have been left out of the food policy making process. Practitioners such as farmers, fishers, food workers and consumer groups should play a bigger part in the policy making process.
