Q: Do companies have to join the Campaign to be listed?
A: No, though we urge them to join us, in support of our charity’s work.
Q: Do all listed bakeries only make Real Bread?
A: Not necessarily. A bakery might also make products that fall outside the Campaign’s definition.
Q: How are bakeries checked / inspected?
A: Rather than an assurance scheme, the map works on trust, with each bakery self-certifying they make Real Bread. If you have evidence that all products sold by a bakery fall outside the Campaign’s definition, please email us and we’ll investigate.
Q: What is The Real Bread Loaf Mark?
A: An at-a-glance assurance from baker to buyer that a product is genuine sourdough, or simply additive-free. Find out more.
Q: Why is my local bakery not on the map?
A: Perhaps they:
- Haven’t got round to it. (Real Bread bakers are busy people.)
- Didn’t know the Real Bread Map exists. (Please pass on our invitation!)
- Thought they had to pay. (Nope, it's FREE advertising!)
- Believe they don’t qualify because they think the Campaign’s definition of Real Bread is something else.
- Use additives. (We’d love them to kick that unnecessary habit.)
- Were on the map but didn’t act on our annual reminder to update their listing. (See point 1.)
- Have something against our charity's work of flying the flag for Real Bread and the people who make it, while challenging obstacles to their rise. (Each to their own.)
