Announcing the newly named Orchard Project

The charity that nurtures Britain's community orchards is changing its name, but not its mission

It began as the London Orchard Project, expanded to other cities and became the Urban Orchard Project, and now, aiming to reach out to wherever neglected fruit trees need its help, it is becoming the Orchard Project.

The name is shorter, and as its founders point out, it's what most people already call it. As the only national charity focused on community orchards, it wants to work with diverse communities, be they in suburbia, in villages or bang in the centre of a city.

In London, where it all started seven years ago, Sustain member the Orchard Project is about to start one of its most ambitious programmes yet. The ‘Celebration of Orchards’ project will work with communities to restore 30 of London's lost orchards, create an accredited orchard training programme and work with community partners across the city to create a community cider and juicing enterprise.
