Capital Growth publishes new toolkit to help Londoners grow wild

London Grows Wild is a hands-on guide to help urban food growers incorporate wildlife-friendly practices and principles into their gardens.

Whether growing in a balcony garden, allotment, school or urban farm, there are a variety of ways to turn urban gardens into welcoming homes for wildlife. It can be as simple as building a bug hotel, planting a patch of wildflowers, rotating crops or starting to compost.

London Grows Wild offers a range of advice and assessments to help growers learn more about what wildlife-friendly food growing is, to identify what’s already going well in their garden, and to discover easy ways to improve. Wildlife-friendly gardening can be beneficial for pest control, soil health, pollination, plant health and is an easy way to improve the city's biodiversity.

The toolkit will be used by London Grows buddies across the city to assess and support school and community gardens within the Capital Growth network. Any food growing garden in London is eligible to receive free site support from London Grows, and full information is available from Capital Growth.

The London Grows initiative is supported by City Bridge Trust, and the London Grows Wild toolkit was supported by the British Ecological Society.
