Nourish Northern Ireland’s (Nourish NI) application to become a member of the Sustain alliance has been approved by Sustain’s Council of Trustees, and ratified by members.
Nourish NI aims to build and support a sustainable food movement in Northern Ireland, creating a cohesive voice for this emerging sector for lobbying and policy purposes.
Sustain and Nourish NI already work together on a number of projects, most notably Sustainable Food Places, within which Nourish NI is developing and supporting 7 SFP partnerships embedded in councils; as well as Bridging the Gap, by providing NI expertise and creating two NI pilots to test efficacy of subsidies in the food supply chain.
Kerry Melville, Coordinator said:
“Nourish NI is the linking body for the emerging sustainable food sector in Northern Ireland, we promote the benefits of healthy, fair and sustainable food, farming, fishing and shortened supply chains across many sectors including community, businesses and government. Joining the Sustain alliance will enable us to take part in crucial discussions and debate that lead to real changes on the ground.”
Ben Reynolds, Deputy CEO at Sustain, commented:
We are thrilled that Nourish NI have joined the alliance. They have long been a lone voice for good food in Northern Ireland, helping to spread joined up thinking on food and farming in local and national policy and practice. They have come so far in such a short amount of time, and we hope that by bringing them into the alliance that we will be able to bring them to the attention of our wider alliance to work with them to achieve their vision.
Sustainable Food Places: The Sustainable Food Places Network helps people and places share challenges, explore practical solutions and develop best practice on key food issues, so if you are working to drive positive food change or are interested in developing a programme, please do get in touch.
