RSPB finds voluntary alternatives to regulation are limited

Sustain member the RSPB have launched a new report looking at the impact of 150 voluntary schemes across a range of sectors and issues.

The report ‘Using regulation as a last resort? Assessing the performance of voluntary approaches’ found that over 80% of schemes were found to perform poorly on at least one performance indicator. The schemes assessed included the Alcohol Industry Health Labelling Agreement (UK, 2005), the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (UK, 2010) and Halving Waste To Landfill (UK, 2008).
