Food Legacy is a programme of work inspired by the London 2012 Food Vision, seeking to promote healthy and sustainable food in the catering and events sectors, and to promote opportunities for sustainable food suppliers. The project is coordinated by Sustain, working with a wide range of stakeholder organisations, including the Greater London Authority and Mayor of London's food programme. Sustain is looking for an enthusiastic, creative and tenacious project officer to play a key role in stimulating a significant increase in healthy and sustainable food buying in the catering sector, and helping sustainable food businesses, including smaller businesses and social enterprises, take advantage of the many opportunities presented by London’s hosting of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Summary job details
With the support of a wide range of industry, government and non-governmental organisations and working group members, the post will help to:
- encourage a wide range of organisations to adopt healthy and sustainable food buying policies inspired by the London 2012 Food Vision
- promote opportunities for sustainable food businesses, including smaller businesses and social enterprises, to supply the catering and hospitality sectors, in events relating to and surrounding the London 2012 Games
- set in motion a continuing programme of change that lasts beyond 2012, helping create a better market for sustainable caterers, sustainable food businesses and healthy and sustainable food long into the future
- run a steering group, working group and information service to help coordinate activities, and to build the profile and momentum of the Food Legacy programme.
Person specification
Essential:
- Experience of running a successful campaign or high-profile promotional activity
- Experience of project management, and of liaising diplomatically and effectively with diverse organisations to achieve shared aims
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Experience of the commercial food supply chain, preferably in the food supply or catering sectors
- A personal interest in, and passion for promoting healthy and sustainable food
- Excellent contacts in the food supply and/or catering sector
- Energy, enthusiasm, creativity and tenacity
- Entitlement to work in the UK (Sustain is not able to assist with applications for work permits)
- Availability to commence work promptly, preferably with at least some preparatory work in December 2011
Desirable:
- Knowledge of issues around sustainable and healthy food and sustainable procurement
- Proven ability to build and maintain good working relationships with a wide range of people and organisations
- Experience of dealing with the media
- Good track record in fundraising
