Virtuous Bread and The School of Artisan Food teamed up to run the Small Food Awards for a second year to celebrate professional, micro food producers in the UK.
From 40 entries from across Britain, it was three Real Bread microbakeries that came out on top:
1st place: East Sheen Microbakery’s white sourdough
2nd place: Ma Baker’s porridge bread
3rd place: Sticky Mitts’ merlot, fig, and pine nut loaf
Virtuous Bread founder Jane Mason, (who was not a judge in the category) said she was delighted with the fact that all three also happened to be part of the Bread Angels network, which supports home bakers across the UK create their own microbakery.
The Real Bread Campaign supports everyone who decides to bring Real Bread back to their local community. If you are interested in starting your own Real Bread microbakery, download the Knead to Know guide.
If you run a microbakery and want to be a part of Virtuous Bread’s Bread Angels network, email Jane Mason at jane@virtuousbread.com
