Dig In 2018: A celebration of food growing in the city

Urban growers from across Capital Growth’s network came together earlier this month, to share ideas and kick start the growing season at an event hosted by Urban Growth at Pop Brixton.

The Dig In event, on Wednesday 14 March, was attended by over 40 keen growers.  Hosted by one of Capital Growth’s new Training Hubs, the event was a mixture of networking, workshops and updates run in partnership between Brixton Orchard and Pop Farm at pop-up venue - Pop Brixton.

To celebrate the launch of a new jam-packed training calendar, Capital Growth trainers Julie Riehl and Mark Patterson inspired growers with two insightful workshops on soil life and wild bees in the city (did you know that wild bees pollinate 70% of the crops used for human consumption?!).

The evening ended, after delicious veggie Caribbean food, with the trademark spoken community noticeboard ahead of informal networking.  Gardens who had signed up for #BigDig2018 also bagged delicious seed potatoes such as Cara, Charlotte and Pink Gypsy.

There is still time for gardens to sign up for #BigDig2018, or find your nearest garden on our online map. You can also join the mailing list on Capital Growth's website
