Why urban food policies work

A new report looks in detail at five world cities that have developed successful, joined-up food policies, to see what lessons can be learned.

The report provides insights from diverse cities, facing different food challenges, in Brazil, Kenya, the Netherlands, Canada and the USA. Each city has drawn up some sort of urban food policy or strategy. Whether these were initiated from the top down or  the bottom up, they showed that an inclusive process as the policy moves forward -- involving communities, civil society and actors from across the food system -- is what matters most.

The Report, What makes urban food policy happen, was co-written for the International Panel of Experts on Sustainable Food Systems (IPES-Food) by Professor Corinna Hawkes, director of Sustain member the Centre for Food Policy. Download the report or a summary here.
