An article published in BMC Public Health journal has found evidence of a range of health and wellbeing impacts of school gardening, with groups of pupils who do not excel in classroom activities found to particularly benefit.
The report also looked at factors that help or hinder the success of these projects and found that "lack of funding and over reliance on volunteers were thought to threaten success, while involvement with local communities and integration of gardening activities into the school curriculum were thought to support success".
The review also called for further quantitative research to support the qualitative evidence.
