London Grows community garden hubs announced for 2017

After reviewing a high number of garden applications and a tough deicison making process, Capital Growth has announced its partnership community food growing hubs for the 2017 London Grows initiative. This season's hubs include

• The Cecil Sharp House garden: A low-maintenance decorative, ecological and edible permaculture site, which also hosts the annual London Permaculture Festival, in Camden
• Cordwainers Garden: A neighbourhood garden in Hackney growing fruit, vegetables, herbs, as well as plants for dyes and medicinal use.
• Oasis Nature Garden: A local wildlife haven for all ages to enjoy environmental play in Stockwell, including a small woodland, ponds, fire circle and vegetable patch.
• St Luke’s Growing Connections: A community garden in Islington of raised beds filled with seasonal food, edible flowers and fruit trees and bushes.
• Sydenham Garden is a unique wellbeing centre that uses its gardens to help people in their recovery from ill-health, based in Lewisham.
• The Regent’s Park Allotment Garden: Capital Growth’s flagship site offering volunteering, training and events for hundreds of Londoners every year.

London Grows is a three-year Capital Growth initiative to help more people volunteer in food growing gardens and engage with wildlife in the city, funded by City Bridge Trust and the Mayor of London. Together with the community garden hubs, this year we will run over 20 food growing training sessions across the capital, and host volunteer open days to welcome new people into the world of urban gardening, such as The Big Dig on Saturday 22 April.
