“2015 ended with an historic climate deal in Paris – to keep global temperature rise below 1.5C. But we haven’t a hope of avoiding catastrophic climate change if governments continue to ignore the impact of high levels of meat consumption,” says Eating Better’s Sue Dibb. "Eating less and better meat and a greater variety of plant-based foods will have benefits for our health and the health of our planet."
The recommendations call for integrated food and farming policies to support a transition to less and better meat consumption, updated government dietary guidelines, encouragement for farmers and the food industry to switch from meat-based to alternative production, an end to routine and dangerous use of veterinary antbiotics, and Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) reform to prioritise a reduction in meat production and consumption.
