Bake 5: A fantastic fillip for flour arrangers

Five of the leading suppliers to Britain's domestic and small, independent bakers have joined forces to create a membership incentive package to help the Real Bread Campaign survive and thrive.

Five of the leading suppliers to Britain’s domestic and small, independent bakers have joined forces to create a membership incentive package to help the Real Bread Campaign survive and thrive.

As a boost to the Real Bread Campaign’s drive to attract 1000 new members in 2014, from 1 March everyone joining or renewing their membership will be eligible for exclusive offers from Bakery Bits, Bread Matters, Doves Farm, Marriage’s and Shipton Mill.

The Campaign, part of the food and farming charity Sustain, has plans for a new project called Together We Rise. This is designed to help thousands of people living with mental health issues and facing a range of other challenges to benefit from the therapeutic, social and employment opportunities Real Bread making offers.

The ability to launch the new project, however, relies on the charity raising the dough to do it.

Campaign coordinator Chris Young said: ‘Right now, membership fees are the only income Sustain receives to be able to keep running the Campaign. It’s brilliant that our members at some of the best-known mills and equipment suppliers to the Real Bread bakers of Britain have pulled together to create an offer help us say thank you to people for their support of our charity’s vital work.’

Together the Bake 5 offers represent a saving of more than the annual Campaign membership fee, which starts from less than £2 a month for individuals and microenterprises.

They are:

  • Bakery Bits - £5 off
  • Bread Matters - £10 off
  • Doves Farm – 3 FREE 1kg bags of artisan range flour
  • Marriage’s - 10% off
  • Shipton Mill - 10% off

All Campaign members are eligible for a range of other offers, including discounts at more than 40 baking schools.

The Campaign has also started to ferment plans for this year’s Real Bread Maker Week (10-16 May) – the annual celebration of Real Bread and its creators, and is confident of securing a publishing deal for its second book – a collection of recipes and stories from Campaign members.
