Real Bread tastes great!

Real Bread Campaign supporter Ma Baker has scooped a prestigious 3-star Great Taste Award, for her porridge bread.

The accolade picked up by the Fulham-based microbaker and Bread Angel is one of the highest dished up by the Guild of Fine Food. Of 12,366 entries tasted across 62 days between March and July this year, only 165 (around 1.3%) received one. As the Guild notes: ‘For a Great Taste 3-star award, the vast majority in the room – which can be as many as 30-40 experts – must agree that the food or drink delivers that indescribable ‘wow’ factor.’

Ma Baker, AKA Liz Wilson, tweeted ‘Will be mainly walking round with a smile on my face.’

Other Campaign supporters picking up 1- and 2-star awards for their Real Bread include Hobbs House Bakery, Peace & Loaf Bakehouse, The Flour Station, Bread Bread, Leakers Bakery and The Bakehouse (Notts).  Campaign supporter mills winning awards for their flour were Felin Talgarth and Doves Farm.

Judges across two days of dedicated to bread and other baked products included Campaign supporters Patrick Moore of More? Artisan and Fergus Jackson of Brick House, and Campaign co-ordinator Chris Young.
