Good Food Local: get on the map

This simple self-assessment tool will help your authority to understand where you are now, and to take meaningful action for enabling a healthy and sustainable food system and environment in your local area.

This survey asks about your council’s activity but also your contribution and involvement as a partner with wider place–based food work.

• You will be asked to give an assessment of progress under the different headings, consulting with your colleagues and partners, and provide brief evidence for that rating including web links, which you need to include in full.

• We recognise that sometimes the best work is done when authorities fund or enable your community partners. We ask about your council’s activity - but you can include delivery by others, provided this is directly related to council support e.g. staff time, resources and/or funding.
   
• There is the opportunity to highlight a particular area of food work you are proud of which may be featured as a case study of excellence (published in consultation with you).
   
• The survey is currently aimed at upper tier local authorities in England and Northern Ireland. Authorities in Wales or Scotland may like to wait until the necessary adjustments have been made to account for the different contexts (in consultation with food leads in your nations). If you are a District or Borough in England, please work with your County Council.
   
• If you choose to publish your results, your full answers submitted will be visible to those who visit the website (please see maps to see an example). We give you the option to keep your answers private. However we’d strongly encourage you to make your answers public and to join the Good Food Local results map to give you – and Sustain - the chance to celebrate areas you are doing well.
