This in person workshop will introduce iNaturalist, explain how to use the app and website, discuss where iNaturalist sits within the broader infrastructure of biodiversity monitoring in the UK, and look at how you can make the most of the tools available. In the run-up to the annual City Nature Challenge, this is your chance to get involved!

This is a full-day training workshop at Cody Dock. Starting with an introductory presentation and guidance on 'getting set up' in the morning, we'll head outdoors to explore using the app and spot bugs, and then we'll go back inside in the afternoon to upload and identify records, and do troubleshooting.

This workshop is particularly suited for newcomers to iNaturalist – those who've never used the platform – but there will be useful tips and tricks as well for those who have a little experience already. Whatever your level, we welcome you to come along and enjoy using the platform and recording biodiversity with us.

Vegan lunch will be provided, please reach out with additional dietary or access needs.

Please bring comfortable footwear, weather appropriate clothing, and a water bottle.

Speakers:

  • iNaturalist ambassador Joss Carr. Joss is an avid and passionate iNaturalist user, having submitted over 30,000 observations and identified almost 14,000 observations for others.
  • Capital Growth will share the citizen science project, the Big City Bug Hunt, which uses iNaturalist to help food growers learn more about the creatures that visit veg plots around the city. Learn how to get involved and run a bug hunt activity yourself.
  • Ali Graham-Brown, Biodiversity Officer at Cody Dock will share how community scientists can use iNaturalist to support advocating for nature in our urban spaces.
