The food and racial justice working group is composed of around 20 organisations across the sustainable food and farming sector that are working on, or are committed to, food justice, racial justice, diversity, inclusion and equity.

The group is co-convened by Sustain and Eating Better. They meet 4-5 times a year to:

  • Feed into the projects and campaigns of Sustain and Eating Better.

  • Identify the priorities and needs of the sustainable food sector and member organisations in areas of food justice and racial justice which includes, but is not limited to, diversity, equity and inclusion.

  • Encourage the sharing of expert knowledge, experience, guidance and resources to others within the group.

  • Support all organisations within the group on starting or progressing their journeys towards embedding food and racial justice and equity across their work, projects and campaigns.

  • Identify opportunities to expand or develop this work.

In 2025, the group developed and hosted the first ever summit on food and racial justice: The Gathering Table.
