10 of the best free events during Urban Food Fortnight

London’s favourite annual celebration of produce grown, made, cooked and saved in the capital is approaching - and we are excited to have such an eclectic mix of free events happening across London. 

From community lunches to harvest festivals, Urban Food Fortnight offers something for everyone. Here are ten free events to check out:

Organic Food Market showcasing local

Explore eco-friendly, nutrient dense and fresh produce at The College of Naturopathic Medicine’s Organic Market. The College’s own natural chefs will be running demos on fermentation, sprouting, zero waste cooking and growing wild foods.

Squash & Pumpkin Festival

Visit the beautiful Garden Museum for a day of squashes - browse unusual varieties and pick up seeds to grow your own, discover the science of pumpkins, and vote for your favourite in the Squash & Pumpkin Competition. 

Sourdough Starter Giveway

Got the itch to try your hand making sourdough bread? Swing by Better Health Bakery and pick up a free sourdough starter along with a tried and tested recipe.

Growing Winter Salads in Window Boxes

Young Marketeers Harvest Sale

Twelve schools from Southwark will head to Borough Market laden with school-grown autumn produce for the Young Marketeers Harvest Sale. All the money raised on the day will go to FareShare, a charity which distributes surplus food to local community groups. 

London Harvest Festival

Celebrate London’s outdoor heritage at the 21st London Harvest Festival! Explore this stunning 89-acre working city farm and ancient woodland, and enjoy animal shows, a horticultural display featuring London produce, and spinning, pottery and metalwork workshops for all ages. 

Haringey Food and Drink Festival

Over 50 breweries, local urban food producers, growers and bakers come together for a big celebration on Tottenham Green; meet your neighbours, mingle with the producers, and enjoy live music, workshops and dancing. Bring your kids, too - there is a bouncy castle, fair rides, face painted and magic shows throughout the day.  

Loughborough Farm Community Shared Lunch

Loughborough Farm are hosting a community shared lunch - a brilliant opportunity to come meet others in your local area and learn more about the soon-to-open shared work and kitchen space LJ Works. Bring a dish!

Fancy lunch in brilliant horticultural education social enterprise Cultivate’s Salopian Garden? Cook together using produce grown in the community garden or bring your own homegrown or foraged produce for a harvest lunch.

Capital Growth has teamed up with 16 community food gardens to showcase their produce and amazing edieble spaces.  Each event has it's own focus - from mushroom growing at Rainbow Grow (28),  mindfulness at MindFood (21) Tea-making at Hackney Herbal's Urban Herbal (21) and garden goodies galore at Maryon Park (21).
