Health professionals mobilise for sustainability

What can the health community do to help people respond to climate and wider environmental change? A gathering in December hopes to produce some answers

Health professionals are often on the frontline in responding to change and crisis, and they also have a long history of campaigning for social change to avert disasters.

In this spirit, Medact is a charity that mobilises health professionals to advocate for a more sustainable world -- including better food and farming. This year, in collaboration with 14 other organisations, including Sustain, The Lancet and the New Economics Foundation, its annual conference will discuss how the health community can best respond to global environmental change.

Healthy Planet Better World, which takes place in London on 9 and 10 December,  will explore the drivers and impacts of climate and wider environmental change, and investigate what the health community can do to adapt and minimise the effects.

More than 40 speakers from the fields of health, policy, campaigning and research will cover topics such as food systems, energy, economics, migration, conflict and health services. To find out more and see how else you can get involved, visit the Medact website.
