Help The Caroline Walker Trust fund activities that provide healthier, more sustainable food options during school breaks and after-school hours by hosting a World’s Healthiest Afternoon Tea.
Snacks, like chips and chocolate, can make up to a third of children’s daily calories, but these options are nutrient-poor and often unsustainable. We need more food and health campaigners to get involved in improving the quality of food available to vulnerable children after school.
The UK is one of the worst-performing nations in Europe for children's food insecurity, with 10% of children living in severe food insecurity, compared to the European average of 4%. For many children, school meals are their only reliable source of nutrition. Yet, outside of school, access to healthy food is decreasing. Unhealthy sweets, cakes and biscuits often fill the gap, and account for 8.5% of food-related greenhouse gases, further threatening children’s futures. Moreover, rising costs of healthy food are driving intakes of vitamin A, folate, calcium, zinc, and iron to decline. This is reflected in the children’s development and health.
By hosting a World’s Healthiest Afternoon Tea, it is a fun and impactful way to drive real change. Whether it’s at your workplace, charity, community centre, or home, every table matters.
The Caroline Walker Trust website has everything you need for a successful event, with simple recipes, downloadable invites, decorations and much more. Together, we can make healthier and more sustainable snacks accessible for every child.
