Responding to reports of high sales of ready-made pancakes, Christine Haigh of the Children’s Food Campaign said:
“It's sad that low confidence and a lack of cooking skills mean that so many people have to rely on microwavable packets, rather than making this simple and traditional dish for themselves.”
She continued:
“More worrying is that, in a drive to "slim down" the school curriculum, the government looks set to abolish the small number of practical cooking lessons school children currently receive, leaving our children without even the ability to boil an egg or bake a potato, never mind cook a pancake."
The Children’s food Campaign is calling for the government to keep kids cooking by ensuring that compulsory cooking lessons are kept on the school curriculum for secondary school pupils.
