The Fairtrade label is widely recognised and admired, but in conversation -- and on the Fairtrade Foundation's digital media -- a few misconceptions keep cropping up, about what Fairtrade means and what Fairtrade certification involves. For example that the products are expensive, or that companies can just slap the logo on a product, or that the scheme doesn't really benefit farmers.

Information Sheet.
There's no doubt that Fairtrade is complicated -- it tries to do something difficult, in a range of very complex markets. This is useful information not just to counter pub wiseacres, but to fill in Fairtrade customers who want to understand more about how the system works.
