Event: Tackling climate change through sustainable food systems

The Square Meal group plans an event to debate the food policy changes urgently needed to tackle climate change.

The event, taking place in London on 1 March, will be chaired by Professor Tim Benton, the UK’s Global Food Security Champion. Speakers include Guy Watson from Riverford, Laura Wellesley from Chatham House, and Martin Nesbit from IEEP. They will propose solutions to key issues including: cutting demand for the most climate-damaging foods, reducing emissions from agriculture whilst still delivering for people and wildlife, and how best to fund land management to secure a truly sustainable system. The propsals will be debated by a high-level panel, with questions from the floor.

The Square Meal Group is an alliance of organisations (including Sustain) and academics which  last year launched the Square Meal report, a publication calling for more policy integration to address the problems seen in our food, farming, public health and natural environment systems. More information on the event can be found here. Read more about Sustain's work on sustainable food and farming here.
