Labour has promised Scotland’s 167 food banks £5000 each should it win in May’s election. More than 117,000 food bank parcels were given out by Scotland’s food banks in 2014, compared to just 5,700 in 2011. News: Scottish Food Commission Announced

In a bid to improve diet related ill health, the Scottish Food Secretary Richard Lochhead has announced the 16 members of the new Scottish Food Commission. Scotland has one of the poorest diet-related health records in the world. The Food Commission, set up in the wake of the Good Food Nation report and consultation, hopes to help reverse this. The chair has been announced as former head chef Shirley Spear who will be working with industry, education and public health experts to improve the country's attitude to food. The Children's Food Bill will be re-introduced to Parliament this afternoon by Mary Creagh MP, who is leading the Bill following her success in the Private Members' Ballot on 26th May. To coincide with the Bill's re-introduction, a full-colour summary copy of a new report, 'The Children's Food Bill - Why we need a new law, not more voluntary approaches' will be distributed to every Member of Parliament today.
