Working class households make up nearly one third of organic sales and Sustain member the Soil Association say this shows organic food is not a middle-class niche. Helen Browning, chief executive of the Soil Association called for an end to patonising assumptions that those on lower incomes don't care about animal welfare, the environment and better food.
