Healthier Options Award for Cafés
Cafés are an important part of the local economy and food culture in many parts of London and working with them to provide and promote healthier options is a key part to improving people’s access to healthy food.
London Food Link worked with Newham Food Access Partnership and HealthWorks on a project to encourage businesses to use healthier cooking methods, to offer healthier options and promote health messages to their customers
The project has supported four cafés in Canning Town North, Newham to achieve the Healthier Options Award.
Community Café
To help improve access to healthy and affordable food in Limehouse, Tower Hamlets, London Food Link helped City Gateway to set up a new community café based at Lansbury Lodge.
Café Relax was launched in April 2009, serving up healthy meals Monday to Friday. The café provides a space for locals to meet and residents can take advantage of training and enterprise opportunities.
Café Relax is run by the Lansbury Women’s Project, with the support of City Gateway’s Enterprise Hub and new catering enterprise; Flavour Gateway
Well London Buy Well: Buywell worked in 10 deprived areas of London to make it easier to buy healthy, affordable and sustainably produced food locally.
