The food and farming sector has an increasingly wide range of roles and career pathways to offer job seekers. To shine a light on these career opportunites, Sustain is hosting a webinar on Tuesday 5 March from 11am-12pm.

During this session, hosted by Sustain's Diversity Outreach Coordinator Sareta Puri, attendees will hear from speakers representing the breadth of jobs in the sector, ranging from public health to agriculture, and have the chance to ask questions to the panel.

Panelists

Dr Kawther Hashem is a Sustain trustee as well as the Campaign Lead at Action on Sugar and a lecturer of Public Health Nutrition at Queen Mary University of London. Her career path has led her to follow her passion for nutrition and she now enjoys sharing her journey with others.

Navaratnam Partheeban OBE is a farm vet, and as one of only three farm vets of colour in the UK, he also co-founded the British Veterinary Ethnicity and Diversity Society (BVEDS). Spending more time on farms than in vet practices, he has spoken up against racism in farming and has published research on encouraging Black and people of colour in agriculture

Carol Adams is the manager of Cardiff Farmers Markets and Food Adventure Social Enterprise - a project helping people from the global majority in Wales to grow vegetables from their cultures and co-producing other projects in Sub Saharan Africa focusing on sustainable food systems.

Jo Wilson is the food sector development lead at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Council and previously worked at the Women's Environmental Network. Also a keen gardener, Jo understands the food system from many angles.

This webinar is open to anyone aged 14+ (school and college groups can join together) who is interested in finding out more about what this broad sector has to offer.

This event has now sold out. To get access to the recording sign up to the newsletter at www.rootstowork.org or visit the Sustain events page the week after the event.

Roots to Work: Roots to Work is a platform for people to advertise and find jobs in the field of good food. We noticed there wasn’t a unique gathering place for good food opportunities to all sit together and felt it was time to make it happen in the UK.

Sareta coordinates Sustain's diversity outreach work which aims to bring more people from underrepresented backgrounds, with specific focus on ethnic diversity, into the progressive food and farming sector. A core part of this work is outreach with younger people and students to inspire them to get involved in the movement. She manages Sustain’s Roots to Work jobs platform which is also a tool to engage new and diverse talent into the sector.
