London Food Link supporters shine at the Urban Food Awards

Following a cross-capital search for the best of London’s urban food producers, on 24 September London Food Link supporters Borough Market, Growing Communities, Hackney Herbal and SoleShare took their place on the Urban Food Awards podium. 

The awards run by London Food Link and backed by the Evening Standard and the Mayors Food Tea, celebrate the best of London’s larder with a shortlist chosen by the public  and winners selected by judges including London Food Board chair Rosie Boycott, The Mayor of London Boris Johnson and chefs Rowley Leigh and Ollie Rowe.

The full list of winners was:

  • Beautiful Brew: Strange Brew Pale Ale by Clarkshaws Brewing Company
  • Best Banger: Daz's by Green & Fortune Cafe
  • The Big Smoke’s Big Cheese: Napier by Wildes Cheese
  • Heavenly Honey: Postcode Honey by Barnes & Webb
  • London Leaves: Hackney Salad by Growing Communities
  • The Londoners’ Loaf: Danish Sourdough 100% Organic Rye Bread by SNAPS + RYE
  • Capital Growth’s Growing Enterprise: Nat Mady, Hackney Herbal
  • New Shoots Food Guru: Dee Laverty, Broadwaters Inclusive Learning Community
  • Food Hero: Jack Clarke and Theresa Douthwright, SoleShare
  • The Krys Zasada Memorial Award for Best London Market Initiative: Borough Market

Rosie Boycott, said: “The standard of entries in this year’s awards is really going to take some beating and goes to show the wonderful range of top quality food and drink on offer, right here in the capital.”

The Urban Food Awards is part of Urban Food Routes, an initiative of the Mayor of London. The awards were announced during Urban Food Fortnight at the Urban Food Feast at Borough Market.
