The pitfalls of public-private healthy-eating projects

UK Health Forum is looking for cases of public-private healthy eating initiatives, to identify both positive impacts and potential conflicts of interest

A recent report from the World Health Organisation identified conflicts of interest as a possible challenge in the increasingly common use of public-private initiatives to promote healthy eating and combat non-communicable diseases. The report sought to raise awareness of this issue, and urged countries to strengthen governance of nutrition initiatives to reduce the likelihood of harmful conflicts of interest.
 
In response, UK Health Forum is preparing a casebook to document multisectoral initiatives and public-private interactions on healthy eating. The objective is to explore any conflicts of interest that have been identified, as well as to report the positive impacts of these partnerships. It is calling for examples from academic or civil society organisations that have been involved in or studied these interactions. The deadline for submission is 15 July. Find out more here.
 
The UK Health Forum, which is an observer member of Sustain, is an alliance of over 40 national organisations working to prevent non-communicable diseases that share risk factors including unhealthy diets.
