Eat Somerset runs a range of events and services to support local food producers, especially to assist them with getting local produce into local retail outlets. Events for 2008 and 2009 are listed on a separate page. Below is information about successful 'meet the buyers' events organised by Eat Somerset in 2008.
Meet the Buyers for the Public Sector
October 2008
This event was held in the Bristol / Bath area, in early October 2008. It was aimed at any producer in a position to supply public sector caterers including schools, hospitals, care homes, prisons. The event started with speakers from South West Food & Drink; a producer supplying the sector; and a caterer buying local produce. This was followed by the opportunity for buyers to have up to six fifteen-minute discussions with different producers and a networking session over lunch. Attendance at this event was free of charge, and supported by South West Food & Drink.

Meet the Buyers for Retailers and Caterers
April 2008
A successful 'meet the buyers' event was held in April 2008 for local food buyers from cafés, B&Bs, hotels, farm shops or shops, giving them the chance to meet the local food producers listed below. There was a chance to browse stalls, talk to producers and make individual appointments.

Eat Somerset: From 2006 to 2009 Sustain co-ordinated a food chain project in south west England that worked to increase trading between producer groups in and around Somerset and independent food retailers in the county, and create new markets in Bristol and Bath.
