Brick House is a wholesale artisan sourdough bakery based in London SE22 just off Peckham Rye Common. We specialise in slow fermentation San Francisco style sourdoughs, all hand made, and wherever possible, using organic ingredients. We deliver to a range of shops, cafes and restaurants locally and in central London, as well as doing farmers markets at the weekend.
We are looking for a volunteer to help out on Friday and Saturday afternoons. A small amount of bakery or kitchen experience would be preferable, but not essential, but you must have and be able to demonstrate a real passion for baking and the desire to make great bread. This is an unpaid position (although we will cover travel costs within reason), but if we find the right candidate our aim is for this to turn into a paid, and hopefully full time position.
Brick House is the current holder of the London Loaf award for our Peckham Rye bread, and we were recently named one of London's top 5 bakeries by the Financial Times.

We’re looking for two key people (or more) who understand and support the idea of Real Bread:
The Lead Baker will make good bread, day in, day out – cakes and biscuits, too, not to mention seasonal specialities, building an assortment of products and a legion of followers. We’re looking for someone with good baking skills (on a scale that’s well beyond the domestic enthusiast), even if these are still developing, and a keen interest in real bread. Good organisation, stamina and considerable tenacity are needed for what is naturally hard work. Also helpful will be a desire to engage with community supporters, to train apprentices and volunteers when capacity allows and occasionally to venture beyond the hearth to spread the word. This generally complete bread oven, built c1930 by Barron’s Engineers of Tooting was used by the Co-op at Helpringham, Lincolnshire, in a purpose built outbuilding from 1948 until possibly the early 1970’s. The owners of the old Co-op need to convert the outbuilding and wish to remove the oven, but do not want to see it scrapped. This large cast iron oven is 2.2m (H) x 1.6m (W) x 3.4m (L), stands on two brick plinths and has a brick built hearth and chimney. The owners would require a contribution of £3000 to make good the building after the new owner removed the oven.

The Bertinet Bakery is expanding and is looking for experienced bakers to join the team working directly with Real Bread campaign ambassador and BBC Food Champion 2010, Richard Bertinet. The bakery was established in 2010 and has already won the Soil Association Best Product Award (Baked Goods) 2 years running for its sourdough. Applicants must have a proven track record of working with sourdoughs and long fermentation breads. Salary dependent on experience. Opportunities for promotion and development as the business grows.
