Sustainable food and farming courses

Getting a degree is not compulsory for many roles in the sustainable food sector. For those that do go to university there are many transferable skills across broad degrees and many people will gain employment related to something different to what they studied.

However, if you know you want to work in sustainable food there are some disciplines that are more likely to lead into it including:

  • Agriculture
  • Agri-Business Management
  • Environmental Management
  • Geography
  • Horticulture
  • Nutrition
  • Public Health
  • Regenerative Food and Farming
  • Sustainable Agriculture and Food Production
  • Sustainable Development
  • Sustainable Food Systems

Some people choose to specialise in postgraduate studies either through a Masters or PhD, particularly if they are career movers. Remember, this is not necessary for many jobs so it is advisable to take the path most suited to your situation and goals. There is a lot to be said for personal development and learning!
