John Inverdale, presenter for the Radio 4 Food Programme on food for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic GamesFood for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games was the focus of the Radio 4 Food Programme broadcast on Sunday 15th January 2012 (repeated on Monday 16th January). The host was sports journalist John Inverdale.

The programme featured interviews with several athletes about their diets and the quality of food served at previous Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Sustain's Kath Dalmeny was interviewed for the programme as a member of the London 2012 Food Advisory Group and one of the instigators of the Food Legacy programme now coordinated by Sustain (www.foodlegacy.org). She talked about the London 2012 Food Vision, the standards and the impressive work of the London 2012 catering team, as well as the fish sustainability commitment made by McDonald's and the Fairtrade commitment from Cadbury. The programme also featured an interview with London Assembly member Jenny Jones.

The importance of London 2012 in stimulating a step change in catering practice was also discussed, and the importance of a healthy and sustainable food legacy from London's hosting of the Olympic and Paralympic Games

As a result of this broadcast, the Food Legacy programme has already received useful feedback from caterers, events organisers, farming organisations, food groups, which we hope will be beneficial for the Food Legacy programme, which is supported by the Mayor of London, London Food Board, LOCOG, London Food Link and New Covent Garden Market Authority.
