Farm assured food

Red Tractor Assurance"It's extremely good news that the work of UK farmers and growers has been recognised and will play a significant role providing 14 million high quality meals during games. Committing to procure UK Red Tractor assured food wherever seasonally possible delivers on LOCOG's promise to provide fresh, quality food for all at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012, which are often described as 'the largest peace-time catering operation in the world'."
Peter Kendall, President of the National Farmers' Union

The Red Tractor logo appears on more than £10 billion worth of food and drink every year. Assured Food Standards, which runs the Red Tractor scheme, works with farmers, food processors and caterers to assure food quality and safety. Farmers producing food that qualifies to carry a Red Tractor logo are independently inspected and meet minimum legal requirements for food safety, environmental protection and animal welfare.

The Red Tractor logo is only used to label ingredients from farmers, growers and food processors that have been produced to the standards specified by the scheme and allows use of the Red Tractor logo under licence. Some catering outlets and restaurants are licensed to display the Red Tractor logo, demonstrating on the menu their commitment to safe, traceable and British produce.

Promote Red Tractor assured food

  • The London 2012 Food Vision commits the London 2012 organisers to using fruit, vegetables, salads and cereal crops produced to at least Red Tractor Farm Assured standard or equivalent, with a growing proportion of LEAF Marque, Rainforest Alliance and Organic certified food over time. It also commits to dairy products (except cheese) produced to at least Red Tractor Farm Assured standard, with traditional British cheeses such as cheddar made from British milk, with a growing proportion of Organic certified dairy (including cheese) over time. You can too! Sign up to the Food Legacy pledge.
  • Consider becoming a Red Tractor licensee, whether as a farm, food processor or foodservice organisation.
  • Buy Red Tractor assured food. You can find suppliers via several food directories.
Read more about the experiences of catering outlets and restaurants using Farm Assured food on the Red Tractor website.
