About

Find your place in the field of good food with Roots to Work - a site for sustainable food jobs and training opportunities in the UK.

Roots to Work is a platform for people to advertise and find jobs in the field of good food. We noticed there wasn’t a unique gathering place for good food opportunities to all sit together and felt it was time to make it happen.

As a part of the charity Sustain: the alliance for better food and farming, our aim is to improve the food system by helping people connect and to raise the profile of career opportunities within the sector.

Our working definition for good food is that it should be produced, processed, distributed and disposed of in ways that:

  • Contribute to thriving local economies and sustainable livelihoods - both in the UK and, in the case of imported products, in producer countries;
  • Protect the diversity of both plants and animals and the welfare of farmed and wild species,
  • Avoid damaging or wasting natural resources or contributing to climate change;
  • Provide social benefits, such as good quality food, safe and healthy products, and educational opportunities.

We also believe that good food jobs are those in organisations that recognise the extent and depth of racial inequality and racial injustice in the food system and expect all organisations that post jobs are committed to diversity, inclusion and equity throughout their work. For more information on how to do that see our resources section.

We review all jobs before they go live and reserve the right to deny a post if the organisation doesn’t fit with our definition of good food. Advertisement on the site does not necessarily imply an endorsement by Roots to Work or Sustain.
