Sustain Planning Food Cities

West Lancashire

Lancashire food partnership, Sustainable Food Lancashire, is setting up local action groups across the county.

They are making contacts with relevant council officers in planning and leisure. A planner is attending the West Lancashire Action Group.

The West Lancashire Local Plan 2012-2027 was adopted in 2013. There is now the opportunity to expand on their strategic green infrastructure policy by influencing the content of the proposed Open Space Supplementary Planning Document. They are also producing more detailed development briefs and masterplans for development General policies could be worked up in more detail relevant to a specific site and include local food growing.

Work has started on drafting a new Local Plan 2023-2038, so the food partnership will have to get involved again if it is to ensure access to food will be covered.
