Plymouth nets third Sustainable Fish City accolade

Plymouth have become only the second city in the UK to achieve three Sustainable Fish City stars, thanks to commitments from Plymouth NHS Trust and City College Plymouth to serve only sustainable fish.

The Pledges, from two of Plymouth's largest food-serving organisations, mean that the city has achieved the required number of pledges in three categories: Restaurants and iconic caterers, hospitals and higher education.

It is now hoped that the cities' large workplaces and Local Council will support the campaign, which would allow Plymouth to be crowned a Sustainable Fish City - only the second place in the  world to do so.

The pledges announced today will see only sustainable fish offered to 15,000 students and to patients, visitors and staff at the largest health trust in the south-west peninsula, which serves over one million meals per year. Their pledges add to those of Plymouth City Council’s Education Catering Service and Community Catering Service, Nuffield Health Plymouth, Plymouth University, The Una Group, and award winning restaurants Harbourside Fish and Chips, Kingfisher Fish and Chips and Rockfish, as well as The Ship and the National Marine Aquarium.

Sustainable Fish Cities is convened by Sustain, as part of the Sustainable Food Cities network.
