Report on sustainable food procurement for London's Schools

Launched on the 25th November 2005 at a food strategy consultation event, this report for the London Development Agency recommends that a sustainable food procurement team is needed to take forward work in the public sector for this work to have the impact it needs. This report details the work that London Food Link have undertaken with Camden Council who were going through a best value review process to choose their school meal provider. Beyond the work in Camden, there is an overview of the school meal provision across London, and a series of recommendations on how the London Development Agency can take this agenda forward, and improve the sustainability of the food procured in London's schools. Another recommendation is that the contract that has been worked on with Camden be used as the basis for exemplary specifications that any London Borough could adopt as part of a toolkit that would specifically help London's schools.
