A series of three FREE workshops for the professional catering and restaurant industries
Sustainable food is one of the fastest growing markets and in 2006, Britons spent over £2 billion on ‘ethical foods’, up 62% since 2002 (Mintel report on Attitudes Towards Ethical Foods – see (http://www.mintel.com/press_release.php?id=242166). Consumers are increasingly aware of the impact of the food they eat, and are demonstrating a growing preference for organic, locally-produced, and Fairtrade produce.
Businesses are also increasingly recognising the need to reduce their impact on the environment, but it’s not always clear where to begin. This series of events, presented by experts in the field, will offer practical guidance, allowing caterers and restaurants to adopt more sustainable practices in their own food businesses.
Serving Up Sustainability 1 Meeting the demand for food with values
Saturday 1st March, 10-1pm
Serving Up Sustainability 2 Where to find, and how to specify, supplies of sustainable food
Tuesday 4th March, 8-11.30am
Serving Up Sustainability 3 Standing out from the crowd: redefining your business for the growing sustainability market
Thursday 20th March, 4-6.30pm
These workshops will equip you with skills to recognise, define and specify sustainable food products and systems. Delegates will gain practical know-how to integrate sustainability into your own menus and business practices through presentations from experts, practical demonstrations and by engaging directly with other food businesses, producers and suppliers.
All events will be run by London Food Link, part of Sustain: the alliance for better food and farming. This series has been funded by the London Development Agency and will contribute to achieving the objectives of the London Food Strategy. Businesses will benefit from attending one, two or all three events.
All delegates will also receive a copy of Sustain’s new ‘Sustainable Food Guidelines: 7 top tips for eating well and saving the planet!’ and information about becoming a member of London Food Link.
