This three-year project is run by Sustain’s London Food Link. It is funded by Defra’s Environmental Action Fund and the EU’s European Regional Development Fund Objective 2. It aims to increase the amount of local, organic and fair-trade food consumed by London’s diverse ethnic communities.
London Food Link has been researching the possibility of getting more sustainable food into manufacturing businesses owned by black, asian and minority ethnic (BAME) businesses. The findings will be published in the forthcoming report “A Greener Curry: sustainable food in multi-cultural communities.”
We seek to develop a supply chain model that serves two functions;
to help stimulate and fulfill consumer demand for ethnic community food-sector businesses to diversify their product range in order to optimise opportunities for producers of local, fair trade or organic food to supply an increasing proportion of the business’s primary products.- to connect existing producer networks with the significant market which the ethnic community food industry represent, in order to begin viable and lasting business relationships.
The UK market for organic food & drink is worth £1.2 billion. Your business could benefit from the increasing numbers of shoppers buying local, organic and fair-trade food.
We will put you in touch with suppliers of local, organic and fair-trade primary and secondary ingredients to ensure best price and service.
We provide a free service brokering supplier relationships between food manufacturers and producers/growers of local, organic and fair-trade ingredients; matching needs and solving problems of transport, distribution, quality and continuity of supply.
