Food co-ops
Find out more about Food Co-ops, their benefits and how to set one up, at: http://www.foodcoops.org/ - the home of food co-ops on the web.
Food co-ops and buying groups are schemes that buy food in bulk direct from suppliers, so that groups such as residents associations, community groups or parents at a local school can benefit by getting good food at a more affordable price. There are lots of different types of food co-ops and buying groups, but all of them:
- Aim to supply produce at more affordable prices than other outlets
- Have some community involvement e.g. as volunteers or committee members
- Are not for profit
- Are democratically run
- Have wider social benefits e.g. educational or environmental benefits.
