Current activities of Local Action on Food

Across the UK, Sustain already runs a number of projects promoting local action on food, which are listed below:
In England (but with relevance to other areas)
- Food co-ops and buying groups
- Food supply and distribution
- These are both part of the five-year Lottery-funded Making Local Food Work programme.
- The Eat Somerset project, which aims to increase trading between producer groups in and around Somerset and independent food retailers in the county, and create new markets in Bristol and Bath.
In London (but with relevance to other areas)
- London Food Link runs a network and a series of projects working with the community, businesses, and the public sector.
- London Food Link also coordinates the Capital Growth campaign, for 2,012 new food growing spaces for London by 2012.
- Buywell – a project launched in 2008 as part of the Well London programme, to promote food access projects such as food co-ops in low-income areas of the capital.
Nationwide (across the UK)
- Food and mental health, addressing the many implications of the growing evidence linking what we eat to the way we feel and behave.
- The Real Bread Campaign, aiming to increase the consumption of good bread, and the skills of local bakers to make it.
- Conserving traditional orchards and bringing them into sustainable management.
- Scotland: Community Food and Health Scotland
- Wales: Nutrition Network for Wales
- Northern Ireland: Healthy Food for All
- London: London Food Link (part of Sustain)
